I have a job interview on Monday and it's safe to say that I am terrified! This is my first 'real' job interview for a 'real' job since graduating from University. So, on the day of the interview I will have all my fingers and toes crossed for luck! I thought I would put together this little interview outfit to hopefully inspire anyone else that may have interviews coming up!
For the interview you want to be wearing something that's comfortable...pulling at the hem of your shirt or cursing over sore feet in sky high heels is only going to leave you looking under-confident and under-prepared. So make sure that what you choose is a comfortable choice! I'd definitely recommend trying the outfit on a couple of days before the interview just to make sure it's a fool-proof choice.
It's cold outside, so you don't want to be braving that walk to the interview bearing all without a coat! I think an oversized boyfriend-style coat is the perfect coat for a job interview. To me, this masculine oversized coat just screams 'I mean business'. Turn up in this androgynous statement coat and it will instantly give off vibes of confidence.
For an interview, it's always safe to go for a nice tailored dress or blazer and skirt (or trousers) combo. And whilst, I don't dismiss the power of such an outfit, I feel that taking the risk and wearing something a little bit different can help make you stand out from the other interviewee's.
I am in love with this check skirt from River Island. It's perfect for winter and when paired with some thick black tights, it will look seriously professional. You could wear this with a white blouse tucked into it. Or you could layer it with a chunky knit roll neck jumper (as mentioned here, I'm really crushing on roll-necks). I feel that the roll neck jumper makes this outfit look a tad more smart-casual. A roll neck jumper is a versatile piece, one that can be slightly androgynous. But one that will emphasis those personality features that your potential employer is looking for. A roll neck just oozes personality traits such as confident, self-assured, determined, knowledgeable and ambitious...right?
For the shoes, avoid those platform heels that you have been dying to wear. This is not the time or the place to risk being Bambi on ice. Wear this outfit with some plain black flats. Or if like me, you prefer a bit of a heel than wear with some heeled Chelsea boots. Just remember to keep that heel reasonable! I adore these ASOS leather boots. They are the perfect finishing touch for the outfit!
As for the bag, I'd recommend rocking a structured tote bag or satchel. You want your bag to look business-like...just to remind them that you really do mean business.
I hope this little interview outfit helps some people! It definitely keeps my nerves at ease (slightly) for Monday knowing that I have something to wear already in the bag.... now fingers crossed I also get the job in the bag too!
Grandiose Days,
