BeautyBlender Make-Up Sponge Applicator Review | Beauty

I love eggs. They are perfect scrambled, fried, in cake or even for homemade face/hair masks. But one thing that I may love more than eggs, is this egg-shaped make-up sponge applicator. I got my mitts on the BeautyBlender a couple of months ago and now I have no idea how I managed applying my make-up before. Call me melodramatic, but it's true. Since getting this bad boy, I haven't used my foundation brush once!

By no means am I a beauty pro. Gosh, I wouldn't call myself a beauty amateur. As a young girl, I didn't spend my days ransacking my mothers make-up bag and drawing all over my face. Instead, I was probably playing outside climbing trees, shooting toy guns and causing mischief. It's only in the past year that I've actually taken an interest in make-up. So, due to my lack of years of sitting in front of the mirror carefully perfecting my technique, my make-up very rarely looks immaculate.

But, welcome the BeautyBlender AKA my make-up applicator holy grail! The unique egg shape of the sponge means you can get flawless base application. I'm not so lucky to be blessed with perfect blemish-free skin. Though honestly, who is? It's no secret that all our favourite celebrities are (unfortunately) airbrushed to extremes that are impossible to replicate. Yet despite knowing this, having a smooth, clear complexion is still something I desire.

The pointed tip is perfect for applying foundation to those harder to reach areas like the brow bone, sides of the nose and inner eye corners. Whilst the rounded base makes applying foundation to your forehead, cheeks and chin an absolute dream. This unique shape means that achieving a flawless finish is foolproof, which makes me so giddy. I can actually trick people into thinking I know something about make-up!

The main reason I prefer using the BeautyBlender over brushes is that it creates a blemish-free, dewy look. Foundation brushes require a sweeping motion for application, which makes it pretty trick to achieve a truly flawless finish. But with the Beauty Blender you use a stippling and twisting motion which means even coverage (hooray!). I strangely enjoy applying foundation with this sponge. I find it therapeutic as it softly bounces against my skin. Though, that's probably just me being weird haha...I imagine most people when applying make-up don't even realise how it feels against their skin!

Wetting the sponge before use stops it from absorbing all of your foundation and in turn, it helps create that lovely, dewy finish - the perfect fresh-faced look for spring! I haven't used the sponge dry before, but when it's wet it doubles in size which just shows how much liquid this tiny egg can hold. Though, using a damp sponge means it requires a lot of tlc. So every night, I make sure to wash my BeautyBlender using the Solid Cleanser. The cleanser has the most calming scent of lavender. This means I get to breathe in the delicate aroma of lavender just before I climb into bed to cuddle up with Netflix...oh how, therapeutic yet again! After a lather, rinse, squeeze and some drying time the sponge is left looking it's original hot pink self by the morning.

I admit that the sponge can be considered to be quite expensive (£16). But if that is a concern, then you can always pick up other brands for cheaper. BeautyBlender also sell micro blenders, which I am dying to try. They look so adorable...and I didn't even know it was possible for a make-up sponge to look adorable!

The sponge does need cleaning in between each use, which may sound like quite an annoyance. But in all honesty, it's a great habit to get into, if you aren't doing so already. It's so much more hygienic and your skin will definitely be thanking you for it, trust me. The BeautyBlender has actually improved my morning make-up routine by leaps and bounds! I'd love to know what your favourite method is for applying foundation!

  1. I agree it might be expensive, but the BBlender is the only sponge so far I have liked and works in so many ways :) x Josune, Your Beauty Script
