Steal Her Style - Taylor Swift | Fashion

I've been wanting to do a Steal Her Style post for a while. So Hello, here it is! Last week I turned 22 and have since then had "I'm feeling twenty-twoooo" stuck in my head! It's no secret that I have a slight (okay, ultimate) girl crush on Taylor Swift. I won't go into all the many reasons behind my love for Taylor Swift because I'd probably be writing for days...and you'll all get sick of me. As for her style, it's one of my favourites. It's just so effortlessly cool yet casual. I feel it sums her up perfectly. This season, I am determined to perfect the TS look. So with this post, I'll be sharing my thoughts on how to steal Taylor Swift's style.

If there is one thing that TS has perfected, it's Parisian chic. Seriously, you'd think she'd just stepped out of a stereotypical French movie filmed on top of the Eiffel Tower. From the stripes to pleats to hints of red, c'est magnifique. Everyone knows that Parisian is always a winning look for the Spring and Summer months. Even her make-up screams Parisian chic. It's stripped back, simple and beautiful. To steal her make-up style, stay fresh-faced. Show off a pale, dewy complexion with a stroke on bronze. For lips, wear a bold blue-red, bright coral lipstick or matte nude lipstick. As for the eyes, it has to be a cat-eyes flick with a touch of shimmering eye shadow. Her make-up always looks so classy. It's a timeless make-up look that's always bound to look amazing.

To steal Taylor Swift's style, you best had stock up on those stripes. She can usually be seen rocking a stripe top in the daytime. Stripes just seem to take that plain t-shirt from bland to brilliant...and with that simple addition of stripes you have the effortless cool, calm and collected look. I won't go listing where to buy the perfect striped tee from because honestly you can pick one up in practically any clothes store in town you walk into from Primark to Zara to All Saints. One of the things I love about a simple striped tee, is how it goes with anything. Skinny jeans, boyfriend jeans, tucked into a skirt, draped over shorts. You name it and stripes will be it's match made in heaven. But, any fashion blogger out there knows that already, right?
Moving swiftly on from stripes, you may have noticed a theme in the above TS photos. The colour red keeps cropping up. I'm normally crazed by head-to-toe black outfit. But lately, I'm falling a little bit in love with colour. Wow, I never thought I'd say those words! I recently posted about my love of pastels for Spring. But, there's something about the colour red. It's brave, intense and sophisticated. And if I do say so myself, I think I actually suit a splash of red and so it's probably time I start adding a hint of red to my wardrobe. In fact, I recently treated myself to a divine deep red Rowallan handbag. I'm slowly building up the red collection. Some red pieces I'm loving right now include this Zara laser-cut red midi skirt, this button-down sweet red top and this flirty Missguided red dress that I can totally see TS wearing for a party. If wearing a bold red top or red shorts isn't quite your style, then keep it minimal with some red accessories instead.

As well as stripes and the colour red, TS can also make a button-down shirt look seriously chilled. Pair a shirt with short-shorts or jeans to keep it looking casual. Jack Wills do some truly lovely classic shirts, including adorable stripe ones with rounded collars (like this one!). Classic Oxford shirts can be taken from office to city style with a quick rolling-up of the sleeves and an unfastening of that pesky top button. It creates a laidback feel to a usually formal piece of clothing. I love that in the final photo Taylor Swift, pairs a striped oxford shirt with a pair of burnt orange shorts and oxford heels. Gosh, it makes me wish I never binned those gorgeous black and cream oxford heels I had back when I was 14 years old- I had fashion sense TS would have been proud of and I didn't even know it! Well, that's it. I'm making a vow to never bin any clothes ever again, because who knows when it'll come back around in fashion again.

For the evening, one of my favourite outfits worn by Taylor Swift is one that she wore recently. It's this exquisite crochet lace two-piece from For Love and Lemons. As soon as I saw the photos of her it in, I knew immediately that it just had to be from this lovely boutique. If you haven't heard of them, they do the most beautiful lingerie. It's an outfit that suits TS so well. It's girly, it's flirty, it's carefree and it's classy...all rolled into one. I'm seriously head over heels in love with this two-piece. It's at the top of my wish-list.

Another thing, I have always adored are flirty mid-length skirts. Taylor Swift shows how a longer length skirt can look amazing, whether it's structured or pleated. I want to fill my wardrobe with midi-skirts for those hot summer days in the office. They can be so simply just thrown on without much thought and still look amazing. Style it up with a pretty blouse or dress it down with a t-shirt or jumper. Get midi skirts in an array of colours from black to red (of course) to yellow. Pair them with a pair of court shoes, chunky heels, ballet shoes or trainers. Whatever you do, have fun and wear it with confidence. A midi skirt can be ultimately versatile, just go with the flow, style it up and laugh it off.

If there's one thing I've learnt from Taylor Swift when it comes to fashion, it isn't to wear stripes, red or flirty skirts. It's to have fun. Be bold in what you wear and don't take yourself, or life, too seriously.

  1. I agree! Taylor makes fashion fun and different. Its not always about the latest trend with her. Its what she feels comfortable and cute in it. It's definitely good advice to take from her :)

    1. You've explained it perfectly! She doesn't wear what's on trend but rather what suits her and what she enjoys...something we should all learn to do in our own style :)
