Menswear Red Carpet Lookbook | Fashion | House of Fraser

Today's post is a special one for all you men, so keep on reading! Whenever red carpet events come around all eyes are on the hunt for the best dressed celebs. My twitter feed is inundated with hysteria about all the beautiful dresses...and little about the awards or the men. So, with the BAFTA Television Awards just around the corner, I thought I'd turn my attention to the males at the awards, looking at recent styles and how you can create your own red carpet look. After all, isn't it time we all showed some appreciation for all those charming men, making us swoon as they saunter down the red carpet?

For the past 3 years, as the title sponsor of the awards, House of Fraser have been in charge of styling the nominees and citation readers of the BAFTAs Television Awards. With House of Fraser as the official fashion partner, there's no surprise that everyone is so amazingly well-dressed. I'm sure we'll be bound to see lots of fresh, crisp style at the upcoming awards.

Velvet Crush: Kanye West at the Grammys and Eddie Redmayne at the BAFTAs

I love how suave the men always look on the red carpet. Who says a suit has to be boring? Because, that definitely doesn't ring true. At any red carpet event, you'll notice how each celebrity manages to inject a dash of their own personality into their outfit. Their personalities shine through the array of suits. At any event, when it comes to Men's fashion, you'll see a mix of safe to wild and anything in between. For instance, this year's Grammy Awards saw Kanye West making a bold outfit choice. His nonchalant attitude was captured perfectly in his velvet Balmain suit, sans-shirt and some old western cowboy boots. Not your usual red-carpet look. Though honestly, would you expect anything less than that from Kanye? On the other-hand, the BAFTAs had Eddie Redmayne, working a midnight blue velvet suit. He kept the look classy, tame and a little bit 70s. This perfectly showcases how you can easily put your own personality spin on your suit for any formal event.

All Black: George Clooney and Channing Taturm wear classic black Tuxedos

A smart black tux. It's the foolproof way to ensure you're looking well polished on the red carpet. You can rarely go wrong with monochrome. It's a common sight on the red carpet, worn by the likes of George Clooney to Channing Tatum. But if all black isn't your style, you can always throw in a splash of colour, texture or pattern. At the Grammys, John Legend was looking ever so smooth in a grey Dolce and Gabanna suit, classic white dress suit and tieless to emphasizes just how chill he is. Similarly, Scott Eastwood kept it cool in a textured suit at the Golden Globes.

Mixing it up: John Legend and Scott Eastwood add colour and texture to the classic suit style

Inspired by the men, I've put together my own Menswear red carpet lookbook.

The first style follows the classic rule of the red-carpet by playing it safe in a grey suit. Pair this with a slim-fit shirt and a black skinny tie for a winning look. It's a simple, charming style. A white slim-fit dress shirt can be the foundation of any smart look. It's a staple wardrobe item, versatile for creating any look you fancy. As hosts of the awards, you can expect to find a variety of formal shirts at House of Fraser to help you to create the red-carpet look of your dreams.

If you're feeling a tad adventurous, then put a casual twist on the red-carpet look. Keep the white slim-fit shirt and pair it with wool trousers and classic brown brogues. Accessorize this look with some old-school braces and a burgundy bow tie to really nail that intellectual look. Say hello to looking like a young, hot college professor (Ezra from Pretty Little Liars, maybe?). Oh and to truly perfect that Cumberbatch look, wear those thick-rimmed prescription glasses with pride. After all, he's won a ridiciulous number of awards and is yet again a nominee at this years BAFTAs. Who better to style yourself on than a winner (and not to mention, total heart throb).

Move over ladies, It's time for the men to slay the red carpet. Keep an eye out for the hottest men's style at the British Academy Television Awards, being aired on Sunday 10th May at 8pm (GMT) on BBC One. Also, keep up to date with the latest BAFTAs awards news here. What's your favourite men's formal fashion look?
