This autumn, I'm embracing layers (as always), 70s suede and warm autumnal tones. Layers are a necessity in Autumn. I'm one of those people who is always cold so layers are a necessity for me all year round. But, we've now hit that time of year where the 7:30am commute to work is freezing and then you're struck with a heatwave as soon as midday rolls around. I'm not complaining though. Crisp mornings and warm afternoons are just the best. Plus, it means having a reasonable excuse to layer up!
For layering, I adore this River Island shearling gilet. So much so that I hit the buy button seconds before dedicating my time to writing this post. That's one thing ticked off my autumn wish list! I love long line jackets and this gilet just looks perfect. It'll definitely make those casual outfits toastier and will add a million chic points. Tell the Kardashians and their sleeveless waterfall jackets to move over because it's all about the sleeveless shearling gilet for the cooler months.
My love for suede is at an all-time high this season. Button-up A-line skirts are adorable for the day time. Layer with chunky tights or over-knee boots for serious autumn vibes. I normally keep my wardrobe muted, sticking to monochrome. But this blue ASOS skirt is irresistible.
Another suede piece on my wish list, is this h&m suede dress shirt. It's currently sold out which just makes me want it even more. The shirt-dress is a favourite look of mine. It just create an effortlessly gorgeous style. Plus you can never go wrong with neutral camel tones.
Polo-necks, turtlenecks, roll-necks, whatever-the-heck-they're-called-necks, are a must-have autumn staple. Seriously, they can instantly transform any outfit into the perfect autumn lookbook. I'll be wearing mine with anything I can get my hands on- blazers, pinafores, skirts, jeans, as a high-neck dress. The list is endless, just like my love for a high-neck top or jumper.
Moving on to accessories, I've developed a soft spot for wool fedora hats. A classic black fedora is a safe move. It'll add a touch of class and confidence to any outfit, sprucing up your daytime look. But for autumn, I adore anything rust coloured. This Brixton wool fedora is just perfect. Rich autumnal tones are so dreamy. They leave me feeling ecstatic for nights spent around the bonfire, with a hot drink in hand, and good friends around you.
For someone who's always cold, gloves are a must-have in my handbag. I normally stick to chunky knit mittens on a string- because otherwise I'm the fool who always loses one glove. But my heart has been stolen by this Leather pom-pom gloves. They are just amazing. Sadly, they're also £25 and with my track-record for losing gloves, that's a huge investment. There's no doubt I'd end up losing one and having to settle for the Michael Jackson look of wearing just one glove. Regardless, they are beautiful and I need them in my life. Plus, when I tried them on they fit perfectly (...like a glove? sorry). A pair of leather gloves are the ultimate chic accessory.
Whilst I do love an oversized tote as much as the next woman, I've also got a soft spot reserved for backpacks. They're just so simple and effortless. I've been loyal to my cream leather backpack for quite some time now. But it may be time to trade it in for a fringe suede rucksack. One that's more fitting for the season. It has some strong boho vibes. I'm a sucker for a boho trend, so this h&m rucksack is perfect and will transition nicely from autumn to summer.
Quay Australia are one of the hottest brands right now and I'm not surprised. They sell the most divine sunglasses. If you think sunnies are just for summer than you're hugely mistaken. These oversized cat frames will be perfect for those crisp sunny autumn days.
Shoes are a girls best friend. I'm more of a trainer girl, myself. But I'm making some room in my shoe closet for ankle boots. Sadly, trainers don't go with every outfit. Teamed with a day dress and tights, or with shorts and chunky knit socks, a pair of tan brown ankle boots can swiftly take your outfits from summer to autumn. These Free People latticed boots are beautiful. A pair of autumn boots are definitely at the top of my fall fashion wish list.
I am more than ready for autumn. Bring on the layers, suede and duvet days! What are your favourite fashion pieces for autumn?
